Rusutsu Resort

Bigruns Bus is the official Rusutsu airport coach — direct from the CTS Domestic Terminal to the Rusutsu Resort Hotel forecourt, no transfers. Departures every two hours, daily December 2 – March 31. ¥5,000 one-way online (¥5,500 walk-up), ¥4,000 child. Booking closes 24 hrs before departure. Sapporo Station ↔ Rusutsu coaches also run via Donan Bus on a similar schedule.

The Westin Rusutsu Resort has 210 oversized bi-level rooms (each 76+ m² with mezzanine sleeping), all with golf-course or mountain views. Won Japan's Best Ski Hotel at the World Ski Awards multiple times (most recently 2019). Connected by walkway to the central Rusutsu facilities and ski-in/ski-out via a short walk.

The Vale Rusutsu opened December 2020 with 73 residences (1-, 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom). Won World's Best New Ski Hotel 2021 and Japan's Best Ski Hotel 2024. Connected to Rusutsu's central facilities, with on-site café, spa, physiotherapy clinic, and ski storage. Best for self-catering luxury.

The Rusutsu Resort Hotel & Convention is the original on-mountain hotel — three wings (North, South, Crystal Tower) with 588 rooms. Closer to the family facilities (pool, ice rink, kids' club) than the Westin or Vale, and significantly cheaper. Best for families and groups who want walkable in-resort dining.

2025–26 pricing: 1-day adult ¥11,500 at the window, ¥9,700 online (16% discount). 5-hour and the unique 25-hour rolling tickets are also available. Rusutsu is an Epic Pass partner — Epic, Epic Local, and Epic Day passholders get up to 5 days included. Hotel guests at the Westin, Vale, or Resort Hotel often receive lift passes bundled into early-bird packages.

The Rusutsu Snow School at the base of West Mountain runs group and private lessons in English with a strong kids' programme. Niseko Base Snowsports also operates at Rusutsu for families wanting consistent instructors across both resorts. Group lessons start ~¥9,000 for a half-day; privates run ¥35,000–60,000 per half-day.

Rusutsu's on-mountain rental at the West Mountain base lodge has full gear (skis, snowboards, clothing, helmets) and is the easiest option for self-contained Rusutsu trips. For premium powder boards and free hotel delivery, Rhythm Japan and Niseko Sports cover Rusutsu from Niseko (~¥3,000 delivery surcharge). Reserve online before flying for Christmas / Chinese New Year peaks.

Rusutsu's wide-spaced birch and silver-fir tree skiing is what brings serious skiers back — Hokkaido Powder Guides, Whiteroom, and Black Diamond Tours run small-group programs that combine Rusutsu's in-bounds trees with side-country skinning to Mt Yotei. Avalanche transceivers and skins included; expect ¥30,000–60,000 per person for a full guided day.
