The short version
If you never subscribe to the newsletter, japownow.com holds nothing that identifies you. If you do subscribe, we keep one thing — your email address — so we can send you the newsletter.
We use privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics to see which guides people find useful. We don't sell data, we don't run ad networks, and we don't build advertising profiles on you. That's the whole story — the sections below are just the detail.
What we collect
There's no account to create on Japow Now — no name, no password, no login. In practice the site touches three things:
- Your email address — only if you type it into a newsletter signup form. That's the only personal detail the site ever asks for.
- Anonymous usage analytics — for each visit, the site records aggregate data like which page was viewed, rough country, device type, and the site you arrived from. This runs through Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, which Vercel collects without cookies and without storing anything that identifies you personally.
- Things that stay on your device — when you save a resort with the heart icon, that list lives in your browser's local storage. It never reaches our servers, and we can't see it.
We do not collect names, payment details (the site takes no payments), precise location, or anything from tracking cookies that follow you around the web.
How we use it
Your email address is used to send the Japow Now newsletter — and nothing else. We don't email you ads for other companies, and we don't hand your address to anyone for them to email you.
The analytics help us understand which resort guides and articles are worth writing more of. It is only ever read in aggregate — “this page got X views this week” — never as the behaviour of a single, identifiable person.
The companies that help run the site
A few established services handle specific jobs. Each one only sees the slice of data it needs to do that job:
Resend
Delivers the newsletter
Stores your email address so the newsletter can be sent. Used only if you subscribe.
resend.com ↗Vercel
Hosts the site & analytics
Serves japownow.com and provides the cookie-free Web Analytics and Speed Insights.
vercel.com ↗Travelpayouts
Powers affiliate links
When you click an affiliate link, it records the click so a partner can credit any booking.
travelpayouts.com ↗We share data with these processors only so they can do their job, and each keeps its own privacy policy (linked above). We never sell your information, and we never share it for advertising.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe anytime — every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link, and there's an unsubscribe page as well. Unsubscribing removes your address from our list.
- See or delete what we hold — email us and we'll tell you what's stored against your address, or delete it, usually within a few days.
- Legal rights — if you're in the EU, UK, or California, you have specific rights over your personal data, including access, correction, and deletion. You're welcome to exercise them — just email us. We handle every request the same way, wherever you live.
- Clear saved resorts — since that list lives in your browser, clearing site data for japownow.com removes it.
How long we keep things
We keep your email address for as long as you're subscribed. Unsubscribe and it's removed from the active list. Analytics data is aggregate, held by Vercel on a rolling window, and none of it is tied to you — so there is nothing personal there to retain or delete.
Children
Japow Now is a ski-travel guide written for adults planning trips. It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed to the newsletter, email us and we'll remove the address.
Changes to this page
If the site's data practices change, this page changes with them, and the “last updated” date at the top moves. Nothing here is buried — if something material changes for newsletter subscribers, we'll say so in the newsletter itself.
