About Chubu

Chubu is the central Honshu band that wraps around the Japanese Alps — Aichi, Shizuoka, Yamanashi, Fukui in the official administrative sense, though the dataset treats it narrowly. The skiing here is overshadowed by Nagano next door, but several resorts hold their own. Mt. Naeba's family of resorts spans the border. Resorts in this region tend to be smaller, more local, and easier to reach as day trips from Nagoya or Toyama. Snow quality varies — coastal resorts catch maritime storms with denser snow, inland resorts at altitude get drier conditions. Travel works on the Tokaido or Hokuriku shinkansen lines plus rental car for the final stretch. This isn't the region you fly to Japan to ski, but it's where regional skiers in the Nagoya megalopolis spend their winters — uncrowded weekdays, family-friendly pricing, and quick weekend escapes. The mountains are real, just not the ones you've heard of from social media.
